What it is

This unit is in Galvanized steel / 0.6mm. A circular spiral duct connector is a male coupling tube used to join two spiral ducts, and to adapt from spiral duct to a flat collar, a diffuser or a plenum. It carries the same spiral ripple as the duct itself, so the inside surface behaves the same way under airflow and the joint stays straight over long runs.

The connector is rolled and interlocked rather than welded on the standard part, which keeps the galvanizing intact and keeps the part light enough to handle on a roof or in a ceiling void with one person. It is supplied in the diameter of the duct you are running, and the male profile slides inside the female end of the next length.

It is the part that most often gets shortened by mistake on site. Get the diameter and the length of the overlap right at the quotation stage and you avoid the classic come-back of a truck of connectors that do not fit the duct already installed.

How to choose the right one

  1. Measure the spiral duct diameter, not the flanger outer diameter — the connector has to match the inner bead of your duct.
  2. Choose the gauge to the duct gauge. A 0.6 mm connector on a 0.6 mm duct keeps the joint stiff; using a lighter gauge on a heavier duct just makes the joint the weak point.
  3. For outdoor or roof runs, use a heavier gauge and check the coating — a thin connector exposed to rain and condensation is what fails first.
  4. Ask for bigger diameters if your duct goes above the standard size range; they are produced to order rather than stocked.

Material and finish options

Installation

  1. 1
Cut the duct ends square; a ragged end makes the connector sit off-centre.
  2. 2
Slide the male connector into the female end of the previous length so that at least the full overlap depth is engaged.
  3. 3
Fix with self-drilling screws through the overlapping wall — two per joint per side is normally enough on low pressure.
  4. 4
For higher pressure or for roof plant, add a stainless band clamp over the joint and seal the seam with foil tape or mastic.
  5. 5
Support the joint: a connector spanning a hanger gap is the joint that rattles loose within a season.

Frequently asked questions

How much overlap do I get on the coupling?
The overlap is a function of the tube length. When you order, tell us the duct diameter and the joint spacing you need and we will confirm the tube length before production.
Can I use a connector to adapt from round to rectangular?
Not with this part on its own — a round-to-flat adapter is a separate pressed piece. Send us the round diameter and the flat face you need and we will quote the adapter with the same material and gauge.
Is 0.6 mm thick enough?
For indoor low pressure spiral duct, yes, because the duct itself is the same gauge and the connector is only a coupling. Outdoors move up a gauge.
Do you make diameters outside the standard range?
Yes, larger diameters are produced to order. Send the diameter and the quantity and we will confirm feasibility and tooling.
